Best Unique Couples and Senior Portrait Spots in Edmonton
If you have ever been to the Mactaggart sanctuary on 23rd Ave in the fall I am sure you will have noticed the flocks of people getting their portraits taken. There is nothing wrong with this but I find it interesting that so many sessions are done there when there are so many other great locations in Edmonton that I never see anyone else at. Also, an important factor that I consider when picking a location is that most people are uncomfortable getting their picture taken and if there are a bunch of other people around that only adds to whatever chance people have at settling in and looking natural. So without further ado here is my list of Edmonton locations to up your portrait session and make it stand out in the crowd.
University of Alberta
Now this one might seem obvious but it is often passed by. The thing I like about the university campus, which may be a pattern that follows, is that there are a variety of looks to be had in a single short session. There are lovely brick buildings with stone facades and large ornate stairs, ivy covered buildings, beautiful trees and open grass fields. You can also go in every season for a different but still excellent result. The brick buildings really pop against the white snow in winter and in spring and fall there are colours galore all over campus.
Muttart Conservatory Area
The thing I love about the area surrounding the pyramids is the versatility. We can do a completely natural shoot that looks like you are in a forest or an open field. Alternatively there are structures to create more of a romantic story and also protect your shoot during any condition so you dont have to reschedule during one of our many stormy nights. Do you want a cool urban look? Well the pyramids all light up after sunset and can create a cyberpunk look and there is also the lights of downtown right there too. Finally there are gardens of great coloured flowers to compliment your look. So really the Muttart has it all.
Local Neighborhood Ravines
If you like the looks you see coming out of the Mactaggart sanctuary but you don’t want to be with swarms of people, you are in luck. Basically all of Edmonton’s ravines have a similar look to them and most of them have the advantage of being much less popular. So if you are a bit camera shy we can find you a great alternative location with potentially a bit of gas savings for you.
Nearest Elementary School
There are an absolute ton of nice photos to be had at whatever school you are closest to. Often times the buildings are nice looking and have a variety of spaces and aspects to them. There is also usually playgrounds that can offer some very cool and unique photos using a variety of equipment and angles that are available.
Your Backyard
Lots of people have beautiful yards or at least nice aspects to their property that can make a very nice setting. The other big positive is the comfortability factor as well as the privacy that ones own property affords. There is also a very unique aspect to having a session on private property as it really shouldn’t be a photo hot spot.
Conclusion
This is not a conclusive list as there are a bunch of other locations within Edmonton that were not brought up here. Hopefully this blog illustrates that there are more possibilities than initially thought and not all locations have to be a grand expedition with name recognition.
